Monkey Drum 1.2

After several months of planning, designing, programming, fixing, reprogramming, and fixing again – Monkey Drum 1.2 has finally been submitted to the App Store!

This has definitely been our most ambitious and rewarding update thus far. We essentially brought together everything we have learned from our user’s feedback, as well as our internal testing and re-imagined the entire navigation system in the app. We wanted to make this update to Monkey Drum everything we believed it could be, and we didn’t stop until we were happy with the results. This process involved adding several new features which I am proud to reveal here and now.

Feature 1 – LEGS!

This was one of those odd little things that didn’t bother most people, but drove others nuts. When we were designing Monkey Drum, we really didn’t intend for the bottom half of the characters to ever be seen by the camera. But as things got more creative with the camera flying all over the place, it was clear that the legless bottoms would be seen. My thought was, “oh well, they kind of look like Weebles“…. But it seems that some people find Weebles creepy (and we can’t have that 🙂

Feature 2 – Custom Accessories!

This really came out of watching kids interact with the app. Many of our younger users (especially the girls of course) really wanted to add some accessories to the characters. This seemed to be a natural fit for Monkey Drum as it’s all about creativity and making something cool. With the help of our latest team member (more on that later) we added three new accessories AND the ability to chose a custom color for each! You really gotta try this out. It’s just a blast to grab some glasses and a ball-cap and watch it come to life in 3D.

Feature 3 – New Menu!

This feature came about as we discovered that lots of folks just weren’t finding everything the app has to offer. Sure, tapping the monkey on the head a hundred times is fun, but there is a lot more to Monkey Drum than that! We see it as totally new way to learn about creating and recording your own music. We knew something had to change, so we changed almost everything 🙂 Of course, all of the features you know and love are still there. Now they are just a lot easer to find and use.

Feature 4 – Play All Your Instruments!

We knew that a lot of our Monkey Drum musicians out there really wanted the ability to jam on all of the instruments that they had unlocked, and now they can! The familiar mini-keyboard and instrument switcher are now available right away from the “play” screen.
All-in-all there is a lot more that I could say about all of the new and improved features, but the latest update will be in the App Store soon, and you can try them for yourself. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or ideas feel free to leave them in the comments or send us an email at: monkeydrum@flippfly.com
